Doris Helen Woolley passed away peacefully at Birchwood Terrace at the age of 84 on October 14, 2020. She was predeceased by her parents, Garnet and Agnes Woolley, her sisters, Edna (Clarence) White, Joyce (Harvey) Raaflaub and her companion of 54 years, Florence Dugard. She is survived by many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews as well as a large extended family.
Doris was born in York District, Meacham, SK and spent a wonderful childhood on the family farm as the youngest of three sisters. She graduated as a teacher in Saskatchewan and after teaching there for several years came to Kenora where she taught for the remainder of her career. Music played a major role in Doris’ life. Her piano playing was indispensable in the schools where she taught and she sang for many years with both the G Clef Choir as well as the St. Alban’s Church Choir where she was a faithful Anglican throughout her years in Kenora. After her retirement, she continued to share her love of music by volunteering to play for sing-a-longs at Birchwood and Pinecrest Senior’s Homes.
Doris enjoyed many happy times at camp on Treaty Island, Lake of the Woods as well as finding time to travel extensively around the world.
Doris was a generous person who gave freely of her time and with her quiet smile shared a lot of love wherever she went. She will be fondly remembered by all those who knew her.
Donations, in memory Doris, may be made to the G Clef Choir, care of Peggy Holland, President, 1 Machin Drive, Kenora, Ontario, P9N 1H9.
Due to Covid 19 restrictions, we are saddened to be unable to celebrate Doris’s life with her church family and with her many Kenora friends. A private interment will be held at a later date.
