“Maang Kwe”

With her family by her side, Debbie Sinclair passed away on June 7, 2023 at the Thunder Bay Regional Hospital, at the age of 40 years old.

She is survived by her beautiful daughter Joley, father Bernard Sinclair, siblings Crystal Sinclair (Rocky), Stewart Sinclair (Lydia), and Amber Sinclair (Brad), nieces and nephews, Elliot (Hannah), Bean, Zyon, Crysun, Aurelius, Rocklin, Arizona and great nephew Gabriel. She will be deeply missed by her aunties and uncles, Anita (Jimmie), Lucy, Patty, Jack (Lisa), June (Bruce), Karen, Harry (Jackie), Kenneth Jr. (Holly), Troy, Catherine (Devin), Sophia (Murrell) and Coral. Debbie grew up close to many of her cousins, so close as to call them her brothers and sisters. She will also be missed by many close friends who she called her bros along with her many bingo buddies.

She was predeceased by her mother Janet Sinclair, grandparents George Sinclair, Bernard Kelly, Esther Bunn, and Jane Indian.

Debbie was born in Kenora and spent most of her life living in her community, Washagamis Bay. She was given the name Maang Kwe (Loon woman) by her late grandfather, Bernie Kelly because as a little girl she was chased by a loon. She loved doing loon calls on the lake and often referred to other loons as her cousins. She loved fishing, singing karaoke and watching her favourite shows like Family Guy and Futurama. She was an avid bingo player, loved participating in community events and enjoyed games like scrabble, boggle, and playing cards. Debbie always put her family first and will be remembered for planning get togethers, wiener roasts, birthdays, and holidays. She had a laugh that was loud and contagious. She loved her daughter Joley more than anything and did her best in providing her with a good life; you could often find the two giggling, teasing and taking care of each other. She had various jobs but found her calling while working with children in a classroom setting; she planned on completing her Education Assistant certification.

Debbie was strong, outspoken and funny. She loved her candies, pastries and fruits. You could often find her with all kinds of drinks to quench her thirst, especially slushies. She loved going for car rides and blasting her favourite tunes. She loved watching and listening to thunder storms. Debbie loved many things in life but also had many struggles, losing her mom Janet being one of them. We hope that they are together again somewhere in a beautiful place. We will see you again Debinski, Debs, Debbie Doo, Dummy, Ol’, Mama.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the many nurses and doctors who assisted Debbie in her time of need. The family also wants to extend thanks to Kenora Chiefs Advisory for all of the support.

A Wake will begin at 11:00am on Monday, June 12, 2023 at the Washagamis Bay Band Office with a Funeral Service will follow on Tuesday, June 13, 2023 officiated by Pastor Frank Kowal at 12:00pm, with a feast will be served afterwards.
