It is with heavy hearts that we announce Deborah has passed away at the Lake of the Woods District Hospital. She had fought a long and courageous battle with cancer.
She was predeceased by her father Paul Kozmenski, infant daughter Angela, and father-in-law Gerald Ames Sr.
Deborah is survived by her husband and soul mate Gerald, her son Allan (Lisette), her daughter April (Jason) Ficek, granddaughter Keira Ficek, her mother Gladys Kozmenski, brothers Rodney (Lorna) and Shawn, sisters Karen Chartier and Roseanne (Drew Norris), mother-in-law Glenyce, sister-in-law Nancy, brother-in-law Murray, many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins and aunts.
Debbie and Gerry have been married for 34 years. Throughout the years Debbie went back to school and completed her Grade 12, acquired a certificate in building maintenance, and owned and operated their own business, Winnipeg River Marina. She also worked at Canadian Tire, Beaver Lumber, Kenora District Housing, Kenora and Keewatin Non Profit Housing.
Debbie took great pride in her children’s accomplishments. She was proud of her son and daughter and loved them with all her heart. Keira, her granddaughter, was her special gift from God.
Debbie and Gerry were more than just husband and wife; they were friends, business partners and companions. They shared, loved and grew together as one.
Deborah was a strong woman, a gentle soul, a proud mother, loving wife, supporting sister, caring daughter and a good friend to all she knew.
Debbie looked forward to all holiday occasions so she could decorate the house and cook wonderful, delicious meals for her family and friends. She enjoyed gardening and all the plants blossomed under her green thumb. Sitting on the dock in the evening, with a fishing rod, was one of her quiet pleasures in life.
The family would like to thank the 3rd floor nurses for their compassion and thoughtfulness while Deb was with them.
A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Alban’s Cathedral.
