HUDSON, Astrid Ovidia - Astrid Hudson passed away at Pinecrest Home for the Aged on September 27th, 2019, with her family at her side.
Astrid was born in Govan, Saskatchewan on June 30th, 1923. She moved to Kenora with her family in 1939 and married Donald Hudson on August 28th, 1948.
Astrid’s life was a model of service to her family and community. Her willingness to help others was demonstrated by providing a home for foster children, and her active involvement in community programs like Citizens on Patrol and the Agape table which provided meals for the homeless. She was a life-long member of Bethesda Lutheran Church and a long-serving member of the Mary Ruth Circle of the LCW.
Astrid was an avid curler and in later years many hours were devoted to watching and analyzing games on television. During the summer, she enjoyed spending time with her family at their camp on Trout Lake. Astrid was very proud of her Norwegian heritage and enjoyed preparing traditional Norske foods, especially lefse and sylte, for the Christmas season.
She was predeceased by her parents Signe and Albert Hansen, her husband Don, her sister Elsie Peterson, and her brother-in-law Tom Hudson. Astrid is survived by her children Carolyn, Bruce, Ken (Joyce), and her grandson, Patrick.
Also surviving are her sister-in-law, Irene, nieces Barbara Hudson and Sheila Crowe (Dorn), sister-in-law Kay Baletki (George), nephew Jim Belesky (Sharon), aunt Millie Clark, niece Marilyn Zroback (Ed) and numerous grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
The family would like to extend its appreciation to Dr. Michelle Thomas for her many years of care, to the support staff at Benidickson Court, to the ER and second floor nursing staff at Lake of the Woods District Hospital and to the staff of the palliative care unit at Pinecrest.
In acknowledgement of the wonderful palliative care Astrid received at Pinecrest, donations in her memory may be made to Pinecrest Home for the Aged, 1220 Valley Drive, Kenora, ON, P9N 2W7, Hospice Room.
An open house to celebrate Astrid's life will take place in the second floor dining room at Benidickson Court on Friday, October 4th from 1:30 to 3 pm. Parking is available behind Safeway.
