May 26, 1954 – Aug 15, 2020
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother and friend, Anne (Carter) McCaffrey. Anne was a gracious, loving and unselfish person who brought much joy to her family, friends and acquaintances. Her positive spirit and wonderful smile will be remembered by all who knew her.
Anne was predeceased by her parents Lawson and Iris Carter and her brother Bob. She will be sorely missed by her husband Dennis, children Michael and Christopher, brother Jeffrey, sister in law Marlene, nieces Tara, Jessica, Lesley and Lori and nephews Cameron and David, as well as many other friends and relatives.
Anne was born in Montreal, Quebec where she attended school and enjoyed spending time at the family cottage in the Laurentians. Anne was a natural athlete and excelled at swimming, waterskiing and downhill skiing. Upon moving to Winnipeg to complete her degree in Fine Arts, Anne continued her athletic pursuits, by adding tennis, squash, curling and cross-country skiing to her sporting activities.
Anne worked briefly for MTS in Winnipeg and for CRC in Ottawa, but after having children, decided that her role in life would be to become a super-mum which she did with flying colors. She further contributed by doing volunteer work in her children’s schools and running art classes in the basement for the neighborhood kids.
Anne quickly fell in love with cottage life on our island on Lake of the Woods. Even though our cottage lacked the luxuries of electricity, running water, indoor plumbing, etc., Anne enjoyed every aspect of cottage life and would spend summers on the island alone with the two boys during the week, with no cell phones or other means of communication until Den would arrive with supplies on the weekend. Anne added a few more cottage sports and activities to her repertoire, including sailing, windsurfing, kayaking and even fishing. But her favorite of all was blazing new trails through the bush where she and the 2 or 3 dogs we usually had would walk for hours every day. At times, with our dogs, neighbors’ dogs and visitors’ dogs, she could have as many as 9 dogs following her along through the trails, like some kind of canine-focused Pied Piper.
Anne was always a great cook and became famous for the feasts she prepared for friends and family. No matter who showed up at the last minute, there always seemed to be enough, although Anne’s own plate often looked pretty sparse, but that was her way. Later, Anne became a Pampered Chef consultant and supplied friends and relatives with a never-ending supply of kitchen tools and gadgets.
Anne had a very strong faith which she retained throughout her life and drew strength and comfort from during her illness. She was a member of Lakeside Baptist Church, where she attended Sunday services, Bible Studies and other special events.
Anne will be remembered by all who knew her for her wonderful smile, her positive attitude and her unparalleled unselfishness.
Thanks go to the wonderful staff at Pinecrest who went out of their way to provide loving and caring support for Anne, particularly during the recent months when it came at such a cost to their own personal lives.
No formal funeral service will be held at this time.
