Ronnie grew up in Northern California under the care of her grandmother, Mabel Keene and foster parents Mary Liz and Andy Carrino. When she was 16, she went to work as a mother’s helper while she finished school at George Washington High School in San Francisco. After graduation, she worked at MetLife Insurance Company, and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1957. While serving as a Privet First Class in the Marines in San Diego, CA, she met her husband, Lester Garry of Salem, SD. Ronnie and Les were married in 1958 and blessed with four children: Michael, Anne, James, and Glenn.
Ronnie and Les lived all over the United States with each of the four children being born in a different state. Michael was born in California, Anne in Washington, James in North Dakota, and Glenn in New York.
After taking some time off to raise her family, Ronnie went to work for the Capital Journal in Pierre, SD. She then earned her Associate’s Degree in Business. Later, she earned another degree in Cosmetology and worked as a hair stylist for 17 years in Brandon, SD. She then worked at Luverne Truck Equipment before retiring in 1999 in Brandon SD.
Ronnie lived in Brandon SD from 1977 to 2005 then and then moved to Greenfield, IN until moving to Kennesaw, GA in 2007.
Ronnie enjoyed traveling and often took trips with her daughter Anne’s family to various state parks and campgrounds. She also took weekend trips with her youngest, Glenn, to Charleston, SC; Boston, MA; Asheville, Birmingham, GA, NC; and Nashville, TN.
Ronnie was a lifelong learner and stressed the importance of education to her children. She enjoyed designing personalized cards for her friends and families to celebrate birthdays special occasions. She also spent a good deal of time researching her family history based on her great interest in genealogy. She was proud to be a direct descendent of Richard Warren, a settler on the Mayflower.
Ronnie loved to stay active through her volunteer work at the St. Vincent DePaul Thrift Store in Kennesaw, GA for over 15 years where she enjoyed being involved with other generous people.
Ronnie was a deeply devoted Catholic and a founding member of several different parishes during her life. As an active parishioner, she was involved in many ministries including teaching high school religious education, Teens Encounter Christ, Residents Encounter Christ, liturgical ministries and many social parish clubs and gatherings.
Along with her parents, Ronnie was preceded in death by her husband, Lester, and her 13 brothers and sisters. She is survived by her four loving children: Michael Garry (Mary Belanger) of Long Beach, CA; Anne Garry-Sherman (Bill Sherman) of Dallas, GA; James Garry (Karen Wiersma), of Granger, IN; and Glenn Garry (Laurie Wright) of Newbury Park, CA. Ronnie was very proud of her nine grandchildren Megan (Thomas Hunter), Shelli, Sean, Emily, Brian, Molly, Anthony, Peter, and Christopher. She is also survived by many friends. Ronnie will be buried next to Lester at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Salem, SD.
The visitation for Ronnie Garry will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday Feb. 8, 2023 at the Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home located at 2950 Cobb Pkwy NW, Kennesaw, GA. The funeral mass to honor the life of Ronnie Garry will be at St. Clare of Assisi Catholic Church located at 6301 Cedarcrest Road NW Acworth, GA 30101 at 1 pm on Thursday Feb. 9, 2023.
