Retired Construction Manager and Vietnam Veteran, Roger Mitchell Ferguson, age 73, of Acworth, Georgia transitioned to his heavenly home on Monday September 12, 2022. Roger was born on April 7, 1949, in Tazewell, Tennessee, to the late Esco and Gladys Ferguson. While the hearts of his loved ones are broken and the tears are flowing, they know he is now at peace, free from pain and the ailments that restricted him.
The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Roger. Whether it was reading the Bible (which was always within arm’s reach), working a crossword puzzle, watching the squirrels run through the backyard, feeding the grandpups treats or finding the best tomato of the bunch and then explaining why it was the best, he did it all with passion and love. He loved playing solitaire, watching Charles Stanley, Westerns, Tennessee Volunteers football, the Atlanta Braves and texting “come hear me”. Oh, how those text messages will be missed.
Roger was one of the hardest working men you’d ever meet. He loved his work at AmericasMart in Atlanta and finally retired at age 69, only after lots of encouragement. It’s reasonable to assume when he reached those pearly white gates, he started handing out punch lists to ensure heaven was “show” ready. Roger’s devotion to the good Lord above, his family, friends and work will never be forgotten.
Along with his parents, Roger is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 30 years, Gloria Ferguson, his sisters Diane Ferguson, Carolyn Ferguson and Vicky Ramsey.
He is survived by his Sister; Gail Thomas, Brother-in-Law; Danny Ramsey, Children; Mitchell Ferguson (Joy), Gina Manning (Doug), Brian Castleberry (June) and Cara Elizabeth Snyder (Michael). Grandchildren; Tony Samples, Jessica Bennett (Jason), Madalyn Delgadillo, Alexander Chavarria, Madison Ferguson, Jacey Ferguson. Great Grandchildren; Haley, Macey, Mason, Lilly and Paislynn Samples. Nieces; Sandy Saylor (Billy), Jennifer Russell (Jeremiah). Nephews; Jason Ramsey (Pansy), Jamie Brooks (Ronda) and Kelly Ramsey; along with a host of relatives and friends.
The family will receive visitors at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 21, 2022, at 10 AM. Funeral services will begin at 11:30 AM in the Chapel at Winkenhofer. Interment will follow at 1:30 at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton.
