Neva Hope Miesen Reitz, 91, Cobb County resident, died February 22, 2016 of natural causes. A celebration of her life will be held Sunday, February 28, 2016, at 2:30 pm at Pilgrimage United Church of Christ, 3755 Sandy Plains Road, Marietta, Georgia, 30066.
Mrs. Reitz was born Neva Hope Miesen in Muskegon, Michigan, to parents John and Florence Miesen. She attended and graduated from the University of Michigan, where she met and married Harold Lewis Reitz Jr. of Rochester, New York. With her husband she moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, then Rochester, New York, and eventually to Marietta, Georgia, where she remained until her death.
Neva was an energetic and progressive member of every community in which she resided. While raising five children, she helped her husband run the family’s custom-home construction business, occasionally worked as a substitute teacher, served as a church deacon, and sang in various church choirs. Passionate about helping disadvantaged people, she was involved in multiple charities and activist organizations. She was also passionate about interior decorating, a talent she applied for decades to her husband’s business.
Neva was preceded in death by her sister, Carol Miesen; husband, Harold Lewis Reitz Jr.; and sons Jonathan, David, and Harold Bradford Reitz. Survivors include two daughters, Dana Reitz and Randi Cardwell (Abe); two sons, Kenric “Ric” Reitz (Noel) and Mark Reitz (Suzanne); two brothers, Kenneth Miesen (Zoica) and Robert Brecht; five grandchildren, Ryan Murphy (Jillian), Andrew Murphy, Shelby Eanes (David), Corey Reitz, and Tilman Reitz; and three great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be directed to Pilgrimage United Church of Christ, address listed above.
