surrounded by her family, on November 13, 2024.
Megan was born on September 22, 1980 in Bay Shore, New York, to Elizabeth and James
Mills. Megan showed a kind, courageous, and lively spirit from an early age. She was always
dedicated to those she loved. As the seventh of ten children, she was cherished by her parents
and blessed with a unique bond of a large, close-knit family.
Growing up, Megan excelled both academically and athletically. She was a standout student athlete
in high school. Her accomplishments earned her a place in the Saint Anthony's High
School Hall of Fame for her exceptional performance academically, and in soccer, swimming,
lacrosse & basketball.
Megan continued her academic and athletic journey at The Pennsylvania State University,
where she played soccer and earned her degree in education. In recognition of her prowess on
the field, Megan was voted two time team Captain of the Penn State women’s soccer team
and named as All Big Ten Mid-Fielder. She held a Penn State Women's Soccer record for third
most matches started. Megan was noted by her coach to be a focal point player on their team,
and a leader by her teammates.
While at Penn State, Megan met the love of her life, Marty Mills. She often joked that she would
marry Marty to avoid changing her last name and true to form, she achieved that goal. Megan
and Marty married shortly after graduation.
Marty and Megan planted roots in Marietta, Georgia. Megan became a dedicated elementary
school teacher enriching the lives of those she taught and worked with. She was beloved by
her students, never gave up on anyone, and always brought out the best in everyone.
Most importantly, Megan and Marty built a beautiful life raising three wonderful children:
Edward Henry, Owen Martin, Meredith Rae. Together, they had an unwavering focus on
creating a strong and loving environment for their family. Megan was a devoted wife and
mother spending most of her weekends alongside the hockey rink and baseball diamond
cheering on her sons or amidst the crowd applauding her daughter on stage at dance recitals.
In their downtime, Megan cherished time by the ocean with her family where they made
unforgettable memories. She was also a true American patriot. Megan loved her country and
was deeply proud to support it.
Megan is survived by her husband, three children, mother, father, seven brothers, two sisters,
her mother and father in law, her sisters and brother in laws. Her legacy will live on through her
nine nephews and twelve nieces, who will forever cherish the memory of their aunt's generous
heart and caring nature. Megan's passing leaves a deep void in the lives of all who knew her,
but her memory will live on in the hearts of those who experienced her loyalty, kindness,
compassion, strong will, and infectious smile.
