Lacy Jones was one of fifteen children born in 1933 to Theodore and Lucille Smith Goodson, in Knightdale, North Carolina. Most of her childhood and adolescence was spent on her family's 200-acre farm where they produced tobacco, cotton, and a multitude of fruits and vegetables. Some of her fondest stories were about how she and her siblings would eat as much apples, grapes, watermelon, cantaloupe and pecans as they wanted. She also had stories about the horses, pigs, cows and chickens that she helped tend to. Lacy also recalled helping her father and siblings load up large trucks full of tobacco and cotton, fruits and vegetables to be sold at local marketplaces. Other fond memories were of her high school days as a Majorette at Zebulon high school, she was so proud of her marching and baton twirling skills and how the crowd cheered her on during annual sporting events. Lacy Goodson married Edgerton Lee Jones of Raleigh North Carolina and raised a total of 8 children.
She had a kind, gentle and humble spirit, and loved the Lord with all of her heart. Lacy was a prayer warrior and reading the Bible was her favorite past time. Sam Cooke and the Soul Stirrers were her favorite gospel group. She also loved to listen to Ray Charles and Marvin Gaye. She was a huge fan of sports. Basketball, baseball, tennis and boxing being among her favorites. In her later years a great deal of her enjoyment came from using FaceTime to speak with and visit with her children and grandchildren. Lacy was a loving mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. Everyone seemed to gravitate towards her. She was more than just a pretty face. And when it comes to cooking, she made the best sweet potato pies around. Lacy was so loved. We will miss her dearly.
Lacy was preceded in death by her son Clarence Ligon Jr.; her daughter Pamela Ligon and son Michael Jones. She is survived by her son Larry Jones (Lystra); her daughter Arlethia Jones (TJ); Cynthia Abreu (Eladio); her son Bruce Ligon (Tieecha); her son Brian Ligon (Destiny) her sister Swonnora Pascua (Antonio); her brother Theodore Goodson Jr. (Exie); her sister Joyce Goodson; her sister Ruthie Brock (Larry); her sister Gloria Goodson-Hurt.
