While in Atlanta, Juanita met and fell in love with Kenneth Fowler of Canton. They married May 27, 1960 and moved to Kennesaw, Georgia where they lived for over 40 years. Juanita became a Christian at a young age and was a member of Shiloh Hills Baptist Church.
From her lifelong love of teaching, she attended night courses at West Georgia in hopes of becoming a teacher. She began her teaching career as a parapro at Big Shanty Elementary. Mrs. Fowler eventually moved to working in the school’s office as the main administrative assistant. After 26 years, she transferred to Chalker Elementary. After over 30 years with the Cobb County School System, Juanita retired in 2000.
Juanita was a wonderful mother who dedicated her life to caring for and supporting her daughters. Over the years, she would always be found cheering on her daughters playing softball and rarely missed any events in which they were involved. In the 1970’s, Juanita was a pitcher on a local softball team in Kennesaw. And in the 1980’s, Juanita and her husband were members of a local square dancing team. Juanita was best known in her family for her delicious cooking and being the matriarch of the family which she loved dearly. She also enjoyed reading, bird watching, and traveling where she visited every state except Hawaii. Juanita was a fan of Georgia Bulldog football, Nascar, the Atlanta Braves, and the Atlanta Falcons. She also had quite the green thumb with her yard full of her beautiful flowers and plants. Her favorite holiday was Christmas, which was evident by the numerous beautiful Christmas decorations throughout her house in December.
Later in life, Juanita could be found on her ipad on Facebook, keeping in touch with her many lifelong friends. Her greatest joy was becoming Memama to her grandsons. They were the light of her life and brought her so much joy. She was blessed to have them spend most weekends with her where they formed a special bond.
Juanita will be remembered as a selfless mother, wife, grandmother, and sister who always put her family first. She had a quiet strength and was a constant encourager.
