George Elliott Belden, born on July 21, 1942 to Clair Leslie Belden and Shirley Covert Moats, passed away at his home in Acworth, Georgia on July 1, 2021. George was a man of a million jokes and one who didn’t know a stranger. He had a big personality and even bigger heart. To know him was to love him.
Born in Kansas City and growing up in Nebraska, George always considered himself a Midwesterner although he spent most of his life in the state of Georgia. George attended both the University of Colorado and the University of Nebraska and was a lifelong Cornhusker. He went on to work in a variety of fields including banking at First National Bank and advertising with McCann Erickson and Coca-Cola before starting his own company in aluminum wheel repair. George did his best to live his life in a “no spin zone.” He enjoyed woodworking, boating, camping and a good thunderstorm. As the grandson of an inventor, he also inherited a love of creating and tinkering.
George is preceded in death by his father, Claire Belden, mother, Shirley Moats, and stepfather, George Moats. He is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Lynn Belden, and his daughters, Amy Blumenthal (Jon) and Leigh Beakley (Geoff) as well as his grandchildren, Ben Blumenthal and Anna Blumenthal who he loved very much. He also leaves behind loving sisters Julie Taylor, Gail Atkins (Dana), Carol Tomer (Ken), Mary Lienemann (Doug) and lots of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held in Kansas City, Kansas at Village Presbyterian Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) to help prevent others from being victims of unnecessary accidents. https://fundraising.madd.org/campaign/George-Belden
Condolences can be sent to the Belden family at 65 Cedarcrest Village Court, Acworth, GA 30101.
