Marine wife and mother
Elizabeth (Betty) M. Baer, age 92. passed on July 13, 2024. Born in Worcester Massachusetts to Edith and Carl Piirainen, she graduated from Commerce High School in Worcester.
Her interest in show horses, in her younger years, created the opportunity to meet her future husband at a horse auction. She was married to her husband Robert, in a military wedding ceremony. in 1954.
Betty accompanied her husband, a career U.S. Marine, to several states during his 26 years in the Marine, and resided in Hawaii and Alaska among others. She arrived in marietta in 1978 and maintained a residence here until death. She made many long lasting friends in her travels and maintained contact with them over the years.
Betty was an Avon representative for over 25 years, in East Cobb. Betty was one of the original members of the East Cobb YMCA Kickers, a senior aerobic dance troop. She was with the Kickers for over 10 years. She was also an active member of the NAS Atlanta Yacht Club.
During her later years she traveled extensively, and enjoyed several shipboard cruises, return visits to Alaska and Hawaii, a trip to Spain, and travel throughout the United States.
She is preceded in death by her husband Robert,and is survived by her three children, Robin (Loomis) of Sugar Hill, Steven of Canton and Cynthia (Lahr) of Woodstock. Betty also enjoyed her eight grandchildren, Christopher Baer, Cody Baer, Tim Loomis, Jeffrey Loomis, Kari (Loomis) Bumford, Elisa Lahr, Courtney Lahr, Taryn Lahr, and four great grandchildren, Olivia Mason Bumford, Major Baer, Nate Bumford and Nova Elizabeth Lahr.
