Edward was born in Atlanta to the late Rev. William Jenkins and Freddie Mae Jenkins. He enlisted in the U. S. Air Force and was stationed at Lackland Air Force Base where he became an Aviation Mechanical Engineer in the 1950’s. After he served, he joined the Atlanta Police Department during the 1960’s. Later he would transfer to Fulton County Police Department where he stayed until he retired. Serving over 35 years, Edward was awarded numerous metals and accolades for his service and dedication to the community.
Edward is survived by his wife of 52 years, Katherine Jenkins; daughters, Mary Widener, Heather Tiner; his grandchildren, Jesse Widener, Shayla Tiner, Terry Tiner; brother-in-law, Curtis Garner; nephew, Curt Garner; niece, Linda Fennell; great niece, Miranda; great nephews, Adam, Wesley and Brandon; and many other beloved relatives.
Funeral services will be held Friday Sept. 4 at 3 PM in the chapel of Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Ledbetter officiating. Interment will follow at Mars Hill Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Acworth.
The family will receive friends between the hours of 6 until 8 PM Thursday at the funeral home.
