Catherine "Kay" Campbell passed away peacefully on April 26, 2024 at the age of 85. Kay was born February 22, 1939 to Italian immigrants Anthony “Tony” and Marie Antonia “Lena” (Corrao) Baiata. Kay spent her early years in Baltimore, MD where she attended business school, worked in the office at a factory and met her husband, Michael “Mike” Campbell. They married June 14, 1959. The marriage brought happiness for 40 years, during which time they raised 3 boys. Kay & Mike lived in Baltimore for the 1st year of marriage, then relocated to East Detroit Michigan in 1961 thru 1970 before moving the family to Marietta, Ga. They lived in the Marietta area for several years, then moved to east Alabama near the state line. After Mike passed away, Kay returned to Georgia in the Draketown area. She owned and operated a small business, Exercise Equipment Service.
Kay wore a great many hats in her life. She was a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a sister and friend. Most people knew her as “Ms. Kay.” After her retirement, Kay spent over a decade in Texas. She volunteered at Trinity Medical Center where she served as president of the board of volunteers. She was awarded the prestigious “Volunteer of the Year” in 2016 and 2017. She enjoyed shopping, attending theater, and playing cards.
Kay was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers and her husband. She is survived by her 3 sons Michael F. Campbell Jr. (Lisa), Craig Campbell (Tammy) and Brian Campbell, along with six grandchildren Kristin Alexander (Sean), Kurtis Campbell (Andrea), Kimberly Moore (Matthew), Anthony “Tony” Campbell (Tierney), Mariah Campbell, and Katie Kelley, plus 3 great-grandchildren.
Kay touched everyone she met and her infectious laugh will be greatly missed. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home & Memorial Park in Kennesaw, Ga. Services are Friday, May 3, 2024 at 9:30 am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to your favorite animal shelter.
