Bobby is survived by son Bobby L. Richardson and his wife Ann; daughter Robin S. Richardson; grandchildren Mikhail O. Richardson and Ashley N. Jarvis; brothers Henry Richardson and Frank Richardson; sister Margaret Reagan. Bobby was preceded in death by his wife Frankie M. Richardson in 2012.
A Purple Heart recipient, Bobby was a true Patriot with a distinguished 30-year Army career retiring with the rank of Sergeant Major. Being a member of the elite Green Berets, Bobby was the first Special Forces member recognized for a low-level combat parachute jump in Vietnam. He earned many medals and ribbons throughout his career including: Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Army Commendation Medal with “V” device for Heroism, Good Conduct Medal 10th award, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Civil Actions Honor Medal 1st Class, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Silver Star, along with many others recognizing his accomplishments. He earned the Combat Infantryman Badge, Scuba Diver Badge, and the Master Parachute and High-Altitude Low Opening (HALO) Parachute Badges. He was also awarded foreign military honors to include the Belgian Commando Badge and the German, Belgian, Korean Parachutists Badges, and the Greek HALO Parachutist Badge. His final assignment was as the Sergeant Major with the ROTC Military Department at North Georgia College.
After his military career, Bobby worked as an Appraiser with HUD for many years before finally retiring. Never one to sit idle, Bobby would be found working on the family property, also cutting and donating firewood for elderly neighbors, and conducting repairs for Mount Olivet Baptist Church. He was a Southern Baptist and a lifetime member of Mount Olivet Baptist Church.
A visitation for Bobby will be held Wednesday, May 20, 2020 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home, 2950 Cobb Pkwy NW, Kennesaw, Georgia 30152. A chapel service will occur Thursday, May 21, 2020 at 11:00 am, with Pastor Mike Smith officiating. Burial will follow Mars Hill Cemetery in Acworth.
