Fondly called by her short name ‘Ola’ (Olatokunbo) and her popular nickname, ‘Kush’, her spirit and character endeared her to everyone who met her. She cherished friendships and showed affection to everyone without limitations. Ola truly reflected the pet name ‘Wura’, given to her by her paternal grandmother, which translated, means ‘Gold’.
Ola was a very brilliant student who always made her parents extremely proud. Right from her elementary school days in Lagos, Nigeria at Corona and University Staff Schools, to her high school days at Federal Government Girls College, Akure, up until her college days at the University of Lagos College of Medicine where she obtained her medical degree, Ola always excelled with flying colors.
Ola completed her residency training in Internal Medicine at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School’s Internal Medicine program and practiced for over 30 years as a board certified Internist in various states across the US including New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Georgia. She last practiced as an internist at Floyd Medical Center in Rome, Georgia.
Ola loved her family very much. She adored her husband of 25 years, Dr. Osagie Okundaye, and they were very fond of each other, affectionately always calling each other ‘babes’. They were blessed with their 11 year-old twin boys, Tamosa and Tiosa, and Ola was an extraordinary mother to her children. The boys meant the world to her and she gave the world to them Ola was a cheerful, caring, selfless, generous and compassionate woman. A great leader and inspiration to many, including her siblings and extended family. She enjoyed cooking, shopping, traveling, interior decorating, and ‘gisting’ with her close friends and family.
Ola passed away Sunday, June 19, 2022. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 2, 2022 at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home in Kennesaw, Ga. In addition to in person attendance, you may join the service via livestream at https://vimeo.com/725073522 beginning at noon.
She is survived by her husband, sons, parents, siblings, in-laws, cousins, nephews, nieces, godchildren and her dearest friends. She is greatly loved and will be missed dearly.
