Mom was creative, intelligent, beautiful, and had a great sense of style. She was a perfectionist who knew what she liked and definitely knew what she didn’t.
With her natural creativity, she built a successful business, The Basket House, with the help of her sisters, which she ran for over 30 years. Through it, she raised many of the children in her family.
She had a deep instinct to take care of others; it was simply who she was. She was born with the unrelenting need to mother, and she was incredible at that. Even though she wished her kids lived closer, she was always proud of their paths and looked forward to their daily calls. She never missed an opportunity to tell a perfect stranger about their success.
Dad’s full-time job was to make her happy. He cared for her deeply. Their weekends were spent traveling to antique stores to find unique masks and other pieces, creating an ever-changing display in the house. They enjoyed fishing, playing “I Got It,” short trips to Canandaigua and the 1000 islands, and going to Byes in Olcott for popcorn.
She got to see both of her kids get married, and we know that made her happy. She put her creativity to use the last few years and found joy in painting pottery.
In her final days, it was with the support of her closest family that we were able to keep her comfortable at home, where she wanted to be.
Mom wasn’t afraid to die; she just didn’t want to leave us, and we weren’t ready to let her go. Her strong will kept her fighting almost nine years after she was first diagnosed. She would’ve been an amazing grandmother.
