Mrs. Shirley Wilma Lay was born September 3, 1946 in Kaufman to parents James Edward and Julia Wilma (Davis) Whiteley and entered eternal rest on August 2, 2019 at the age of 72. Shirley was a loving, caring, generous, joyful, sweet, honest beautiful woman who gave all to her family. She raised three boys on her own working as a seamstress. Shirley enjoyed crafts, sewing, reading, and making things like baby blankets and flags She was a member at Styx Church of Christ. Shirley was an amazing woman who will be missed tremendously by all who knew and loved her.
Shirley was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents Bruce and Mattie Elizabeth Davis; paternal grandparents Jasper and Carrie Whiteley; father James Edward Whiteley; daughter Julia Elizabeth Lay; grandson Tyler Lay; niece Vada Avant and husbands; Billy Ford, Royce Lay and Bill Snell.
She is survived by son Jeff and Debbie Ford of Claremore, OK; son Jimmy and Elizabeth Ford of Claremore, OK; son Nolan and Paula Lay of Mountain Home, AR; grandchildren Mickey and Alison; Chelle; Jesse and Allyssa; Trinity and Harley; Taylor and Caygan; Steven and Tanya; great-grandchildren Raelynn, Jaxxston, Athena, Athalia, KayLeann, and Wesley, mother Julia of Kemp, brother James and Diane Whiteley of Kemp and sister Rita and Johnny Avant of Kemp, other loving family members and many more friends.
A visitation for Shirley will be held Friday, August 9, 2019 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Anderson-Clayton Bros. Funeral Home, 1226 S. Elm St., Kemp, Texas. A funeral service will occur Saturday, August 10, 2019 at 2:00 PM, at Anderson-Clayton Bros. Funeral Home. A graveside service will occur at King Cemetery, Aley, Texas.
