It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Rick Pelland at the age of 73. He fought a hard and courageous battle with cancer. He is predeceased by his parents, Gerard and Violet Pelland, his son Ron Pelland and sister Patricia Turenne. He leaves behind his loving wife of 18 years, Sandy, his daughter Tracey Pelland (Craig) of Calgary AB, stepdaughters Gabrielle (Mike) Metcalfe of Cherryville, BC, Genevieve (John) Morrone of Kelowna, BC and stepson JJ (Sarah) Limoges-Dieno of Campbell River. Grandchildren Danielle and Scott Bjorge, Parker and Ruby Limoges-Dieno and Livia and Katelyn Morrone. Great Grandchildren Brayden and Noah Bjorge. Also left to mourn the loss are his remaining siblings, Denis (Kathleen) Pelland, Annette (Marcel) Naden, Margot McLeod, Gail (Dale) Kamtor, Guy (Denise) Pelland and many nieces and nephews.
Rick was born in St Boniface, Manitoba. Over the course of his adult life, he moved between St Boniface and Kelowna several times but in 1981 he called Kelowna home for good. He worked in contract sales over his working years ending with Rona. He retired from Rona in 2016.
Rick enjoyed the outdoors and loved to go camping in the summer. He also got a great joy out of salmon fishing on the ocean and putzing in his garage for hours. Rick was an excellent handyman and there was no job too big or small for him. He could do it all.
He will truly be missed by many but has now found the peace he so deserves.
A special thanks goes out to all the wonderful staff at Hospice House for the loving care they gave Rick on his last journey in life. Thank you to Dr. Parsons for stepping in to help in our time of need and also to all the Doctors on the palliative care team.
There will be no service as per Rick’s request. An informal gathering will be held on October 26, 2024, at the Ramada Hotel 2170 Harvey Ave Kelowna 12:00pm to 2:00pm.
In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to JoeAnna’s House or KGH Foundation.
