We will miss Evelyn but fondly remember a lady who shared her life with many and they benefited from her caring.  We will remember her energy, her sense of humor and her kindness.

I will always remember Evelyn with the abundant qualities of sincerety and Joy. Her smile, laughter and kindness blessed many people.  Her memory will live warmly in my heart, as her kindness is part of one of my earliest memories, and going along to the christmas play each year is a cherished one from my childhood.

My deepest sympathies go out to all of Evelyn's family, as I know she will be greatly missed.

Mom and Dad had lifelong friends from early days in Calgary.  Then in the early ‘60's, they bought the Lakeview Motel and Campground and moved to Kelowna, where they met more lifelong friends.  Mom extended a helping hand to people who needed it and they volunteered their time generously for community events.  Mom and Dad enjoyed many car trips, and a couple of escorted bus tours, to try their luck in Reno and Vegas over the years and mom was front and centre to say Hi to Mickey with grandkids at Disneyland repeatedly!  The road trips to and from Nevada and California were always as much fun as the destination with stops in the Redwood Forest and San Francisco, among others.  Mom and Dad cruised with us, and other family and friends, to Alaska twice, and to the Caribbean and Mexico and through the Panama Canal for their 50th anniversary.  They were enjoyable travelling companions.  Mom also travelled to Hawaii with her friend, Margaret, and her family. 
Mom was an active member of the “TOPS” group for many years.  She was often happily involved in catering delicious meals with the group and they even went on a few road trips.  “What happens with the TOPS group, stays with the TOPS group!”  They had a lot of fun together. She was locally known as the costume lady and her doorbell never stopped ringing at Hallowe'en, year after year.  Her basement was a child's fairytale fantasy of costumes and accessories.  She sewed yards of material for costumes for plays at the Theatre and was very involved for many years, behind the scenes, and at the museum, as well.  Mom and Dad liked to take long car rides around the area, stop for lunch, and enjoy the scenery.  Mom's coffee pot was always on, throughout her life, and when they lived on Grenfell the neighbours' mouths must have watered every Sunday when her roast beef was cooking for Sunday supper.   There was an open invitation for family to enjoy her traditional dinner, complete with Yorkshire Puddings, and then maybe stay to play a card game after dishes were done.
Mom loved a good joke and always had one ready for Carolyn, her niece from Calgary, when they spoke on the phone.  For the last few years, she called the Dorchester home and will be sadly missed there.  She participated in games and activities, she dispensed smiles with the wine she poured at Happy Hour, probably always had an opinion to share and a funny joke to tell, was a valued friend and will leave a hole in the fabric of the Dorchester family.   We've been told they will miss her at tenant's meetings where she sat up front and always confronted issues without ever raising her voice.  Thank you to all of you at the Dorchester for providing Mom with a happy, safe and lovely place to live out her life.  And also thank you to the staff at Cottonwoods for helping to make her last days as comfortable as possible.
