1928 ~ 2014
Esther Spenst entered into rest January 13, 2014 at Kelowna, British Columbia at the age of 85.
Esther will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 61 years, Walter, as well as by her three daughters: Judy (Terry) Foulston, Sandra Doucette (Chris Bowden-Green) and Glenda (Don) Quiring; grandchildren Jeanine (Adam Ruff), Rick (Melody) Foulston, Jeremy (Alyce) Foulston, Andrew Foulston (Lacy Sondrol), Nathan Doucette, Breanna Bowden-Green, Conner Bowden-Green, Alexandra Bowden-Green, Rebecca Quiring, Alison (Jonathan) Gerrans, Bryna (Joshua) Walker, Tyler Quiring, Mark (Terrie) Quering, and Roxanne (Todd) Vesely; great-grandchildren Kayla Anderson, Kiara Foulston, Kason Foulston, Tucker Quering and Coral Quering; brother Arthur (Dorothy) Spenst and sisters Beth (Elizabeth) Brown and Marion (Galen) Brown; in addition to her church family and a host of faithful and loving friends.
She was predeceased by her parents, Jacob and Elizabeth Spenst, of Waldheim, Saskatchewan, and by her siblings, Katie (Catherine) Paul, Jake Spenst and Ann Garrett.
Although Esther enjoyed her years of teaching and later on bookkeeping and treasurer's work for the church, her greatest joy was experienced in raising her family and moments spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Esther held dear to her heart the many members of the Orchard City Church and all her friends and acquaintances. She and her husband visited many friends who were no longer able to get out of their homes on Tuesday mornings and took joy in visiting and praying with them. She was faithful in remembering birthdays and sending out Christmas cards and letters, including little chocolate 'coins' for the grandchildren and other young ones. This year's cards were addressed while she was in hospital - she didn't want to forget anyone. She cared about each one so very much. Esther loved entertaining in her home, and in the last years of her life, would divide out the preparation throughout several days in advance so she could still manage to be ready for Sabbath lunch after church.
Esther also counted it a privilege to have cared for her parents in their final years, and then to have cared for her oldest sister, Katie, visiting regularly in the nursing home until her death. She joyously visited her sister Beth in the nursing home as well, reading to her and praying with her.
Her friends and loved ones will miss her thoughtful and caring ways, and her organized planning. May she rest in peaceful sleep until Jesus wakes her on the Resurrection morning.
A graveside service will be held at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, January 18, 2014, at Lakeview Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 2850 Dry Valley Road, Kelowna, BC.
