Donald McGillvary Jarvis was born in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba on July 26th, 1939 to Harold & Thelma Jarvis (nee Irwin). Donald was predeceased by his two brothers, Norman (Shirley) & Keith (Patricia). Don passed away on Sunday the 21st of August 2022.
Donald met & married Bea Stoughton in 1959 in Winnipeg. Donald & Bea moved to British Columbia and travelled by Greyhound Bus via the Big Bend Highway prior to the building of the Roger’s pass. Don & Bea had two children, Collen & Duane, both born in New Westminster. Don & Bea operated a coffee shop, Don & Bea’s café, in New Westminster. Don during this time also operated a restaurant in Aldergrove. He also managed A & W Restaurants on Vancouver Island & in the Lower Mainland area. Bea and Don eventually divorced.
He met his second wife Susan Quo Vadis around 1965+/-, & helped raise two children, Lance & Charlene. Don & Susan owned & operated the Don’s Drive Inn restaurant located on intersection of Highway #10 & 152nd street in Surrey. Don & Susan eventually moved to Calgary Alberta. Don had several backhoe’s contracted to the City of Calgary for many years.
During this time, Don & Susan purchased a 180 acre parcel of land on Trepanier Mountain in Kelowna, not far from the Okanagan connector, and slowly started to log the area & built small out buildings & sleeping cabins with his own sawmill. He commuted from Calgary for many years and was always proud of the Trepanier asset.
Don re-established his business & he had backhoe services for many years in the Kelowna area, cleaning snow during the winter months, until his retirement.
During this time, he met Joan Biddlecome, and they resided on the farm in the SE Kelowna on Sallows road. They raised cattle & managed horses. They travelled to various locations together & enjoyed holidays to the USA & within Canada. Don & Joan spent most of their time on the farm with family & friends. He was a Grampa & Great Grampa to Joan’s extended family & children of both of her sons, Robert & Evert.
