Dennis was born November 13, 1935 in Winnipeg, Manitoba and grew up with younger brother Ray as they moved to many small towns like Balmertown, and Red Lake Ontario, following his father’s work for CP Air.
They returned to Winnipeg in 1952, where soon after, Dennis met his lifelong sweetheart, Cecile Green in 1954. It’s a good thing he was Blonde, and had a motorbike. Those were Cecile’s only stipulations, lol. They were married in 1958, and with 2 and a half young ones in tow, moved to Maple Ridge BC in 1964.
The travel bug bit them, and on a whim, a vacation became a change-of-life direction, and they decided to move across the globe to Auckland, New Zealand in 1972. There they would meet many lifelong friends.
After a brief 2-year stint there, it was back to little old Maple Ridge, where they would raise their daughter and 3 sons, putting down roots, and again developing many lifelong friendships.
Due to health issues, they took early retirement, and moved to a little piece of paradise called Savary Island. They will always cherish the special memories and life they created there as the defining time in their life together. Dennis will be fondly remembered for his time as the Fire Chief of the Savary Island Volunteer Fire Department during their 14 years on island. From there, they moved to Comox, Courtenay, and on to Victoria where they enjoyed many years close to their friends.
Dennis and Cecile’s lifelong love of travelling took them to many exotic destinations such as Hawaii, New Zealand, the Caribbean, many cruises, and other parts of the world creating memories they never stopped talking about. Dennis’ final resting place might be Kelowna now, but we are sure he is likely waiting in Hawaii somewhere for his love of 64 years to join him.
Dennis is survived by his lifelong sweetheart, Cecile, daughter Deb, sons Todd, Andrew, and Cameron, as well as Sister-in-law Joyce, her daughters Kim and Lisa, and their families. Numerous are their grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and so many great friends who made a mark on his life.
