Dave grew up in Burnaby, enjoyed summers at Lindell Beach on Cultus Lake, and worked in the family business, Galloway’s Specialty Foods. He graduated from the University of British Columbia in 1965 with a Bachelor of Arts degree and was admitted as a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of British Columbia in 1971. During this time, Dave met the love of his life, Ruth. The two were married in 1967 and settled in North Vancouver where they started their family and lived for 9 years. In 1976, the family moved to Lakeview Heights in West Kelowna allowing Dave to accept a Partnership position with Thorne Riddell. Seven years later, Dave left to run his own practice, which he did successfully for over 35 years. Dave wholeheartedly loved working with and advising his clients, so many of which became dear friends. In 1991, Dave and Ruth built their forever home in South East Kelowna. Dave loved to spend time perfecting a perfect yard which provided a wonderful venue to share with his family and friends.
Dave’s quick wit, high integrity, curiosity in everything and genuine nature endeared him to so many people along his path. His friends were life long and his relationships were well rooted.
Above all else, Dave’s greatest pride was in his family, all of whom will miss him immensely. He is survived by Ruth, his wife of 53 years, his sister Barb Padmore, his sons Andrew (Jennifer) and Mike (Tobi), and his daughter Susan (Ryan) Fehler and his 6 grandchildren Hailey, Kate, Grayson, Piper, Evan and Mya. All of whom will cherish many fond memories of time spent with Papa.
True to Dave’s nature there will be no free lunch. His funeral will be private and attended only by immediate family members.
For those who so desire, in lieu of flowers, please make donations to the BC Children’s Hospital.
