He was born in Keene, NH, August 26, 1963, the son of Joan K. (Glines) and William E. “Bill” Starkey, Sr.
He was a 1982 graduate of Keene High School where he was active on the student council and a student representative to the Keene School Board. He was also a member of the Debate Team.
Mr. Starkey attended Northeastern University where he studied business administration. He also attended the NH Vocational Technical College in Claremont, NH, receiving his practical nursing diploma. He later received his license as a message therapist through the North Eastern Institute of Whole Health, Inc.
His work career began here in Keene at the former Henry David’s Restaurant. He also worked with New Hope New Horizons; Monadnock Developmental Services; the Massachusetts Association for the Blind; Crotchet Mountain Rehabilitation Center in Greenfield, NH; Seven Hills Foundation; and most recently as a massage therapist instructor with Spar Tech of Westboro, MA.
He is survived by his parents of Keene; a brother, William E. Starkey, Jr. of Keene; a nephew, Joshua Dean Starkey and his girlfriend, Eve Feldman of San Francisco, CA; a niece, Sarai Tarr and her husband, Roland and their children, Amirah and Gryphon, all of Keene; Godson, Joshua David Ellis and his mother, Deborah Ellis-Nailor of Henniker, NH; close friend and care-giver, Frank Ponte of Lancaster, MA; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
A graveside service will be held in the spring in the Village Cemetery, Westmoreland. There are no public calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mr. Starkey’s memory to The Community Kitchen, PO Box 1315, Keene, NH 03431, or to Kiva.org a non-profit organization with a mission to connect people through lending as little as $25 to alleviate poverty and to help create opportunity for others around the world.
