He was born in Marlborough, NH on December 27, 1926, the son of Alden J. and Nora (Hobert) Beauregard.
Mr. Beauregard was a resident of Marlborough and Keene before moving to Swanzey in 1976. He was a graduate of Marlborough High School and entered the University of New Hampshire. Prior to graduating and during World War II, he entered the United States Army Air Force and served in Japan until 1946. Upon his discharge, he returned to the University where he obtained a degree in business administration. He served during those years in the Air Force ROTC, attaining the rank of Second Lieutenant.
After graduating from the University of New Hampshire, Mr. Beauregard worked for the National Grange Mutual Insurance Company and Peerless Insurance Company, retiring in 1977 as the Vice President of Administration. While working at Peerless, he attained the Certified Property and Casualty (CPCU) designation in insurance.
Upon retirement, Mr. Beauregard started a number of businesses including Edgewood Real Estate Agency and Property Management Company and Marlborough and Troy Self Storage Companies which he owned and operated until his death. For over 14 years, Mr. Beauregard’s Real Estate Agency managed the Hillcrest Resort in Ogunquit, Maine with his daughter, Julie Twombly. He was a member of the Monadnock Region Board of REALTORS and was President of the Board and the Board’s REALTOR of the year in 1985.
Mr. Beauregard served the Town of Swanzey as a Selectman from 1997-2006, Trustee of Trust Funds as well as serving on many other volunteer boards and commissions. He served as a Cheshire County Commissioner in the early-mid 1990’s.
Mr. Beauregard also served on the New Hampshire Municipal Association Liability Board from 2000-2004 at which point this board merged with other NHMA boards and became the Local Government Center Board on which Mr. Beauregard served from 2004-2010.
He also served on numerous community and charitable organizations as well as his government service.
Mr. Beauregard had many recreation interests. He enjoyed flying his airplane and was a licensed pilot. He enjoyed fishing and boating and had a boat on Lake Winnipesaukee for many years. He later moved his boat to Perkins Cove in Ogunquit, Maine.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Julie A. and Steven Twombly of York, Maine; four sons and daughters-in-law, Robert E. and Cynthia Beauregard: William A. and Susan Beauregard; James D. and Barbara Beauregard all of Keene, NH and John P. and Anne Beauregard of Spring, Texas, seven grandchildren; Nathan R. Beauregard, Rhiannon C. Beauregard, Elizabeth J. Beauregard, Caitlin J. Beauregard, Matthew J. Beauregard, Jack H. Beauregard, Megan E. Beauregard and two great- grandchildren; Xavier R. Beauregard and Zoe K. Beauregard. He is also survived by two brothers; Roderick E. Beauregard and his wife, Judy, of Fitzwilliam, NH and Charles Ronald Beauregard and his wife, Rita, of Swanzey, NH. His wife of 56 years, Charlotte (Chapman) Beauregard, died May 31 2006.
A funeral service will be held at the Monadnock Covenant Church (corner of Base Hill Road and Route 9) in Keene, NH on Monday morning, June 13, 2011 at 11:30AM. Burial with military honors will follow in the Woodland Cemetery, Beaver Street, Keene, NH. Family and friends are invited to call on Sunday, June 12, 2011 from 2:00 to 5:00PM at the Foley Funeral Home, 49 Court Street, Keene.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorial contributions be made to the Carpenter Home, an assisted living facility in Swanzey, NH which Mr. Beauregard cared deeply about, in care of the Town of Swanzey, P.O. Box 10009, Swanzey, NH, 03446.
