He was born on December 2, 1938, in Troy, NH, son of the late George Raymond Woods and Roseanna (Desrochers) Stone. Ray graduated from Troy High School with the Class of 1957 and from aviation school in Lexington, MA in 1969.
Following high school, Ray joined the Navy where he was stationed in Hawaii and completed a tour in Japan. He was honorably discharged in 1961 and married the love of his life, Marilyn Drugg, in October of that year.
Throughout his career, Ray had been employed by Herbert Drugg Contractor, Troy Mills, Union Twist in Athol, MA, Keene Airport and Delta Airlines in Detroit, MI as an A & E mechanic, and Sims-Portex from where he finally retired in 2000. Ray was a member of the Troy Fire Department and one of the original of five founders of Troy Emergency Ambulance Service, Inc. He was an EMT-A, President, and member for many years.
Ray loved to hunt and was a very successful huntsman with both bow and arrow and rifles. His trophies included two bear, big horn sheep, mountain lion, elk, antelope, numerous deer (one of which made it to the Pope & Young, 143”), and turkey. Ray had hunted in Colorado, Wyoming, New York, Pennsylvania, Vermont, and New Hampshire. Also a builder, Ray and his son built the log cabin that they had lived in since 1976 along with many other projects. In his free time, he also enjoyed camping in Maine where he and his wife had a camper for many years.
Ray will be dearly missed by his wife: Marilyn Woods; daughters: Debra Stone and her husband Gary of Troy, NH, and Patricia Starkey of Troy, NH; granddaughter: Brandee Stone and her fiancé Timothy Grimshaw of Jaffrey, NH; great-grandchildren: Gage and Zachary Parker and Oliver and Evelyn Stone; sister-in-law: Pamela Michelson; nephews: Tim Wilson and his wife Deb, Herb Drugg, Ben Drugg, Dan Drugg, Tom Perreault, and Keith Murdock; nieces: Tina Pike, Cherryl Murdock-Perreault, and Andrea Murdock; sister-in-law: Jeanne Drugg; cousin: Ken LaPointe; as well as numerous additional cousins and extended family in New Hampshire, Vermont, New York and Florida; and best friend: Wayne “Duke” Tucker and his wife Lauren.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son Raymond Alan Woods and grandson G. J. Stone.
All those who knew and loved Ray are invited to calling hours on Monday, June 17, 2024 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Fletcher Funeral Home, 33 Marlboro Street, Keene, NH. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, June 18th at 11:00 am at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 185 Main Street, Keene, NH. Burial with Navy honors will follow at Mt. View Cemetery in Troy, NH.
