He was born in Brooklyn, New York, July 25, 1923, the son of Anna Marie (Mulhern) and Raymond Edward Johnson, Sr. He grew up in Cornwall, New York, graduating from Cornwall High School.
Mr. Johnson was a Marine Corp veteran serving during World War II and also during the Korean Conflict.
He worked for many years in custodial services with Commack High School.
He and his wife, Dorothy, moved from Commack, NY to Keene 25 years ago where he became a member of the Keene Swingers and a longtime member of the Keene Senior Center. His love of music found him joining The Cheshiremen, where he enjoyed singing for many, within the community. He was a master gardener of both flowers and vegetables.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Dorothy M. (Bernhardt) Johnson of Keene; four children, Raymond E. Johnson, 3rd and his wife, Christine, of Bayport, NY, Kathleen Becker and her husband, Philip, of Bellingham, WA, Mary Davis of Butler, NJ, Christine Thayer and her husband, Jeff, of Boulder, CO; four granddaughters; four grandsons; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Joyce Kalleberg of Staten Island, NY, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Barbara Papamarcos.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, April 12th at 1:30 PM in St. Joseph Cemetery, Main Street, Keene. Family and friends are welcome. Family and friends are also invited to call on Thursday, April 10th from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at the Foley Funeral Home (www.foleyfuneralhome.com), 49 Court Street, Keene.
