Ralph was born in the Panama Canal Zone Sep. 26, 1930, son of Ralph Clinton Wanlass and Margaret (O'Connell) Wanlass. He attended Canal Zone schools for eleven years, graduated from Grand Rapids High School in Grand Rapids, Minnesota and that summer went to Nevada where he worked on his cousin's ranch then later enlisted in the Air Force and served from 1951-1954. He received a BSCE from Clemson University, graduating 3rd in his class. He was a registered Professional Engineer in Alabama, a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, and a member of the Society of American Military Engineers. He worked at the HQ Tactical Air Command (TAC) at Langley AFB, Virginia before going to the Pentagon where he worked for the Department of Defense in a supervisory capacity until his retirement in July 1990.
He is survived by his wife, Sue (McDorman) Wanlass of Keene; a daughter, Theresa Blaisdell and her husband, Michael, also of Keene; daughter Deborah Andreuccetti of Walls, MS; a son, Michael Wanlass and his wife, Mona of Leesville, LA and a daughter, Linda Griffith of Walls, MS. He was predeceased by a son, John Wanlass of Arlington, VA. He also leaves nine grandchildren, Angela (Kent) Porter of Sebago, ME; Christine and Daniel Griffith of Walls, MS; Ramona (Brad) Brawner of Oxford, MS; Gabriel (Kaitlynn) and Dylan Andreuccetti of Booneville, AR; Michael, Jr. and Clinton Wanlass of Leesville, LA and Jake Blaisdell of Keene. He also leaves seven great-grandchildren, Bryce and Garrett Porter, Abram Wanlass, Konner, Wyatt, and Norah Andreuccetti, and Cadence Griffith.
Funeral services will be held at Keene First Baptist Church 105 Maple Ave., Keene on Saturday, April 1 at 11:00 with Pastor Mark Ferrin officiating.
There will be no calling hours.
