He was born in Bryn Mawr, PA on November 6, 1959 to Frederic G. and Grace U. Layman. He grew up in the Keene area and was a 1977 graduate of Keene High School. He graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 1981 with a BA in Geology. He received an Electronics Service Technician certificate from R.E.T.S. Electronics School and a Technical Writing certificate from Northeastern University, both in Boston, MA in 1984.
Eric earned his Eagle Scout honors only minutes before his eighteenth birthday. He enjoyed a wide variety of music, especially progressive rock, attended concerts frequently, and was a disc jockey at WUNH during college. He also attended many sporting events. He loved animals and the outdoors, and enjoyed skiing, bicycling, and hiking in the mountains of NH and WA. He participated in weekly Pub Trivia contests, and enjoyed tinkering and fixing up old cars, namely older Volvos, and remodeling his home. Eric was widely known for his gentle, kindly nature, his dry sense of humor, and for helping others whenever they needed a hand.
Eric worked as a Technical Writer at The Boeing Company, AT&T Wireless/Cingular Wireless, Milmanco Corporation, and Data I/O in the Seattle, WA area in recent years.
Eric is survived by his parents Frederic G. and Grace U. Layman of Keene; his sister Marjorie Layman of Keene; several aunts, uncles, and cousins; and many beloved friends.
There are no public calling hours. A celebration of Eric’s life will be held at 1pm on March 29 at the First Baptist Church of Keene, 105 Maple Avenue, Keene, NH.
