He was born in Island Pond, VT on June 4, 1925, the son of Michael Peter and Ida Mary (Gibbons) Boyce. A resident of Keene since 1929, Clarence attended St. Joseph Regional School in Keene, and then went on to attend Keene High School.
Clarence worked for over 20 years as a projectionist with the former Scenic Movie Theater in Keene. In 1965, he went to work in the maintenance area at Keene High School. He was loved and respected by many of the staff at the high school. Clarence retired in 1990.
A gentleman’s gentleman, he always showed great respect to everyone he met. You could always recognize Clarence by his big smile that he always had on his face anytime you saw him.
Clarence was a longtime, active member of St. Bernard Church in Keene and a devoted Catholic, serving as an altar boy during his youth. He was also a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus Council 819 of St. Bernard Church.
As a young man, he, his sisters and their mother would spend their summers at a cottage in Marshfield Station in Bretton Woods, NH, so they could spend time with their father who worked as a fireman and engineer on the Cog Railway. Although a tragic accident took the life of their father in 1952 while working on the railway, the love of the cog railway and the area never failed. The family would climb Mt. Washington every year, with Clarence’s last climb up the mountain in 2007.
He loved to travel, visiting and seeing much of the United States as well as traveling overseas to other countries.
He will be greatly missed by many in the community, especially his cousin Tom Boyce and his wife, Linda, of Colchester, VT, and their family. He was predeceased by his parents, and his two sisters, Catherine Gibbons Boyce in 2009 and Mary Frances Boyce in 2007. The family lost a brother, Harold Boyce in 1930, who died at birth.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 14, 2017 at 12:30PM in St. Bernard Church, 185 Main Street, Keene. Burial with committal prayers will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Main Street, Keene. Family and friends are invited to call on Friday from 11:00AM to 12:00PM at the Foley Funeral Home, 49 Court Street, Keene.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mr. Boyce’s memory to the Knights of Columbus Keene Council 819, 372 Marlborough Street, Keene, NH 03431.
