His parents, Justin B. and Flora D. (Whittemore) Chamberlain welcomed their son into the world on September 5, 1932, in Marlborough, NH. Al grew up in Harrisville and was a 1950 graduate of Marlborough High School.
A dedicated worker, Al was a polisher with the former American Optical Company in Keene for many years. Following the closing of American Optical, Al owned his own business, "Al Chamberlain General Handyman,” for many years. Eventually he went to work for Yankee Publishing in Dublin as head of maintenance. He was also a skilled furniture maker.
Al was very civic-minded, serving his community in many capacities, including as a part-time police officer for 20 years with the Towns of Harrisville and Dublin; as a member of the Harrisville Fire Department for over 50 years, serving as Fire Chief for 14 years; as a Forest Fire Warden for many years; as a Forest Fire Special Deputy Warden for the State of NH (Emeritus); a member of the School Board, serving as Chairman; a member of the Town Board of Selectman; and many more organizations, too many to mention.
He will be greatly missed by many, especially his wife, of 61 years, Charlotte M. (Cormier) Chamberlain of Harrisville; six children, Peter, Tina, Brian, Wendy, Mark and Debbie; many grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. A daughter, Becky, predeceased him.
A graveside service with fire department honors will be held in the Willard Hill Cemetery, Harrisville, at a date and time to be announced.
For those who wish, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mr. Chamberlain’s memory to the United Church of Christ - The Community Church of Harrisville, 13 Canal Street, Harrisville, NH 03450; or to the Nelson Congregational Church, UCC, 830 Nelson Road, Nelson, NH 03457.
