Frank Farrar, 88, formerly of Slidell, La., and Port Angeles, WA, passed away in Katy, TX on Thursday, July 18, 2024. Frank was born September 26, 1935, in Newton, MA and grew up in neighboring Waltham, MA. He entered the U.S. Marine Corps in 1935, training at Parris Island, Port Royal in South Carolina and then transferring first to Camp LeJuene in North Carolina and then to Marine Corps Base Camp in Pendleton, Calif. He subsequently served in the Combat Arms Training Center (CATC) at Camp Fuji in Japan, where he was a member of the 3rd Division, 3rd Battalion. He attained the rank of Sergeant E-5 before being honorably discharged. He then worked as the Manager of Stevedoring Equipment for John W. McGrath Corporation in the New York ports before moving to New Orleans to serve as Equipment Superintendent for ITO Corporation. Upon his retirement, he and his wife Shinayo (Nishimura), moved to Port Angeles, WA, where they remained until they moved to Katy, TX. Frank was preceded in death by Shinayo, his wife of 63 years, whom he married in Tokyo in March 1959. He is survived by his daughters, Jane Farrar (Richard) Gehring of Katy, TX, and Stephanie Farrar (Robert) Stemmler of St. Louis, MO. He also is survived by his grandchildren, Margaret “Maggie” Gehring; Andrew Stemmler and his wife Katlyn (Gardner); and Madison Stemmler. Frank was recognized nationally for his restoration of Mack trucks and for making hundreds of scale model trucks, many of which are now donated to the Pacific Northwest Truck Museum in Brooks, OR and to the American Truck Historical Society in Kansas City, MO. He was an active stamp collector and loved puzzles. Memorial service will be private.
