Dorothy Eloise Speer

Eloise was born in Big Spring Texas on November 6th, 1927 to Jack and Jewel (Callaway) Gullett. Eloise was raised in Kermit Texas and attended Texas Tech University. She met and married H.D. “Bill” Speer of Jal New Mexico in 1948.

Eloise and Bill would travel the globe: They lived in Kermit, Fort Stockton, Midland, and Houston, Texas. Internationally they lived in San Tome Venezuela, Great Yarmouth and London England. They returned to the U.S and lived in New Orleans, ultimately retiring to Katy, Texas in 2012.

Eloise was a devoted and supportive wife. She masterfully hosted many gatherings in London, New Orleans and Houston. She made many lifelong friends along the way.

She is survived by her son Gregory Speer and wife Phyllis of Katy, TX, grandson William Speer of Dallas, granddaughters: Samantha Speer Ayzman of Broomfield Colorado., Stephanie Torres and Kimberley Bedell of Mineral Wells TX, and great grandsons Devan Bedell and Bruce Ayzman.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband H.D. Speer, son Jack R. Speer and sister Jacqueline R. McReynolds of El Paso TX.

Eloise was a kind and generous person with a great sense of humor and a wonderful host. She enjoyed collecting fine china, figurines and crystal. She loved flowers and was always a devoted member of the local garden club. She enjoyed socializing, playing bridge and particularly liked mahjong. Above all she was a loving, compassionate and supportive person and will be greatly missed by her family.

A private service will take place at Veterans Memorial Cemetery (10410 Veterans Memorial Dr. Houston TX 77038) on Thursday October 6th at 2:15 PM.
