Charles was born June 1, 1938, in Manning, South Carolina to the late Cecil and Hazel Kirven. Charles graduated from Manning High School in 1956. He joined the Air National Guard in 1960 and trained in San Antonio. His unit was activated and he served full time at Shaw Air Base in S.C. Charles married Agnes Viola Rucker on June 24th, 1960. They were blessed with 61 ½ years of marriage and a large, loving family. Charles’ job with Motors Insurance Corp. brought his family to Houston in July, 1978, where he retired in 1992. He and his family were one of the first members of Kingsland Baptist Church which provided them with an extended family, even to today. In his spare time Charles always enjoyed “fixing” things such as cars, bicycles and lawn mowers.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents; brother, James Peter and son Wayne Eric. He is survived by his wife, Viola of Houston, Tx; daughter: Phyllis Martinez and husband Raul of Brookshire, Tx.; daughter: Cynthia Harmond and husband Gary of Lake Jackson, Tx.; daughter-in-law: Laurie Kirven of Austin, Tx.; Sisters: Ceceile Bryan of Tar Heel, N.C. and Leona and husband Jim Davis of Birmingham, AL.; 11 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Pallbearers: Ryan Martinez, Allen Kirven, Scott Harmond, Keith Harmond, Adam Clear, and Eric Mitchell. Honorary Pallbearers: Spencer Hittle, Roy Rodriguez, Anthony Clear, Brandon Clear, and Matthew Clear.
Charles was an honest, kind, gentle husband, father and friend and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Visitation will be from 12pm to 1pm on Sunday, December 19, 2021 in the Chapel of Katy Funeral Home. Celebration of Life will be at 1pm and will be officiated by Pastor Steven Jones. Graveside service will follow at Magnolia Cemetery 6801 Franz Rd. Katy, Texas 77493
