Pastor Avendaño was born May 7, 1942 in Heredia, Costa Rica to Mario Avendaño and Rosa Baldioceda. Carlos was a long time resident of Katy, Texas and obtained his doctorate in theology from Universidad Elias in 2017. He served as pastor in Costa Rica and Texas for more than 27 years.
During his life Carlos was a loving husband, a wonderful father, and a loving grandfather to all five of his grandchildren. Carlos enjoyed spending time with his family and was described as a friend to all, and a counselor to many. He endeavored to share the love of Christ with all, encouraging them to see the fault of their humanity and the saving grace of their Lord through faith in Jesus Christ.
Carlos had a touch of the artist in him which he displayed in various drawings and paintings, mostly of a personal nature, such as of remembrances of places in Costa Rica. He loved to tell stories from when he was growing up, and arguably make up some of the details to fit his recollections. He loved to laugh, whether the jokes were of his own telling or from others. He also loved to cook, never following a recipe, just like most of us!
Pastor Carlos Avendaño was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, William Avendaño and Mario Avendaño. He leaves behind his loving wife of 49 years, Marta Chaverri, of Katy, TX; son, Max Avendaño, wife Diana Jimenez and son Josué Avendaño, of San Jose, Costa Rica; son, Carlos Avendaño, wife Sileny Vargas and son Paulo Avendaño, of San Jose, Costa Rica; and daughter, Karla Begnaud, neé Avendaño, husband Kevin Begnaud, daughters Sheila Marie Begnaud and Sarah Michelle Begnaud, and son Charles Joseph Begnaud, of Katy, TX.
Carlos was a pastor, husband, father and friend, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
The Avendaño family would like to give special thanks to the Memorial Hermann Hospital and staff who took great care of him in his final days of life, displaying compassion all the while.
A Celebration of Life service will be held from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, on Saturday, November 2, 2019, at PowerHouse Church located at 1818 Katyland Dr, Katy, TX 77493.
His ashes will be taken to Heredia, Costa Rica to be laid to rest.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made the day of the service at PowerHouse Church, to benefit two mission organizations. Pastor Avendaño’s heart was with missions and we want to honor his desire to proclaim the Gospel abroad. The two missions to be benefited will focus on efforts to spread the Word in Latin America as well as support the ministerial education of pastors, mission workers, leaders and others who will strive to carry out our Lord’s command in the Great Commission (Matthew 28: 19,20 NIV).
John 11: 25-26 NIV
Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die.”
Revelation 7:17 NIV
For the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd; ‘he will lead them to springs of living water.’ ‘And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.’
