Bobbie Jim Murff Mills, 84, of Katy, passed away Saturday, May 6, 2023, from a long-fought battle with Alzheimer's disease. Bobbie was born on August 23, 1938, in Fruitvale, Texas in Van Zandt county to Allie and James Murff.
Bobbie was preceded in death by her husband, Rolfe Mills; parents, Allie and James Murff; sisters Ann, Peggy, Dennis, Leona, Shirley and brother, Athel; and her two dogs Beau and Maddie. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters Donna Bourbeau of Denton, Texas, Carol Gutmann (Connie) of Katy, Texas, and Brenda Gutmann (Rachel) of Corpus Christi, Texas. Bobbie's two grandson’s James Bourbeau (Caitlin), and Ryan Bourbeau (Shaylynn); great-granddaughter Gwen Bourbeau (James and Caitlin); sisters, Kitty Rippamonti and Billie McKay; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Bobbie loved to reminisce about her early life in Grand Saline and Wills Point, Texas, where she grew up and went to school. After high school Bobbie relocated to Kermit, Texas and worked as a secretary. Shortly thereafter, she moved to Victoria, Texas where she worked at a bank. Bobbie moved to Corpus Christi in 1968 where she raised her three daughters. In the early 1970’s, Bobbie started working in the general and personal lines insurance industry. She was recognized as a Professional Insurance Woman of Texas by the Federation of Insurance Women of Texas in October 1983 and was elected President of the Insurance Women of Corpus Christi in 1987. She received her designation of Accredited Customer Service Representative by the Independent Insurance Agents of America in 1991. Bobbie loved baseball and enjoyed watching the Corpus Christi Hooks and Houston Astros, traveling the country with her husband Rolfe in their motorhome, watching Law and Order, and researching genealogy.
Bobbie moved to Katy, Texas in July 2009. She loved to read and play on her computer, enjoyed playing bunko with “the girls” and her evening “it’s five o’clock somewhere” rum and diet Pepsi toddy. In 2018, she became a proud member of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution alongside her daughter, Carol and was an active member of their local Katy Chapter, Star of Destiny.
Visitation will be on Thursday, May 11th from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Katy Funeral Home, 23350 Kingsland Blvd, Katy, Texas 77494. Services are scheduled at 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. followed by a reception. Burial will be at Seaside Cemetery in Corpus Christi, Texas at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 13th.
