Barbara Ann Young

Barbara was a sister, a nurse, a wife, a mom, a memaw, a great-grandmother, a biker, a golfer, a cross-country skier, a Catholic, a homemaker, a knitter, a bridge partner, a world traveler, a reader, a baker, a fitness enthusiast, and a friend.

Barbara was born in July of 1932 in Taunton, Massachusetts to Jack and Louise Guthrie. She graduated from Taunton High School in 1950 in Boston Children’s Hospital School of Nursing in 1953. Barbara lived in 8 states since she married Tom on Thanksgiving Day in 1957 and could say she visited all 50 of the United States. Barbara could also proudly state she biked in 14 countries around the world after the age of 60 and completed a 100-mile ride in one day in 2005.

Barbara is survived by her husband of 65 years, Edward Thomas Young (Tom); her sister, Helen Bettencourt and husband Cliff of Raynham, MA; daughter Jane Young of Fulshear, TX; son Peter Young and wife Kelly of Naples FL, grandsons, Jamie Young of Atlanta GA, Jack Young and wife Ashley of Kansas City, KS; grand-daughter, Katelyn Young of Boston, MA; great grand-daughter, Harper born this Spring; and a smattering of nieces/nephews and friends from across the US.

A Rosary Service and visitation will be held at 11:00 aml Wednesday November 23, 2022, in the chapel of Katy Funeral Home, 23350 Kingsland Blvd. Katy, TX 77494.

A memorial mass has been postponed until further notice.

Barbara’s ashes will be scattered along the Cape Cod National Seashore Bike Trail in early 2023.
