Mrs. Hutson was born May 29, 1937 in Hackensack, New Jersey to Albert Walter & Edna Martha Miller (Homburg).
Barabara attended Hillsdale and Park Ridge Public Schools (Grades K-4) until her family moved to Florida where she attended and graduated from Cocoa High School in 1955. She also enjoyed playing in her high school band.
In June 1959, she earned her undergraduate BS degree from Florida Southern College with a Major in Elementary Education and Minor in English & Speech. She taught elementary school students in Polk County, Florida for nine years. In 1968 she then attended State University of Florida to earn her Masters in Education (6/’69) followed by her Doctorate in Education (3/’73).
In August 1971, as a divorced, single mother she moved her two young children to upstate New York. There she took an opportunity as an Assistant Professor at the State University of New York (SUNY) at Albany. By September 1976, she was ready for a new role as Associate Professor at Kent State University, in Kent Ohio. In 1979 she took an Associate Professor role at Northern Virginia Graduate Center - Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University, Falls Church, Virginia. In 1985 she continued her career as a tenured Professor until 2002 when she retired from Virginia Tech. Then living in Fairfax, Virginia.
Being a lifelong student Barbara went back to school. She signed up for a course in Advanced Object Oriented Programing. Then used her newly acquired knowledge to work on the federal government EPA website. In addition to developing their website content she received kudos for improving their content for public communications accuracy and clarity.
In 2013 she decided to actually retire and moved to Athens, Georgia in order to be closer to her sister Connie and her family.
In February of 2022, Barbara moved from Athens, Georgia to Katy, Texas to be closer to her son.
She never stopped learning and was always up to a challenge. She will be missed but not forgotten.
Mrs. Barbara Ann Hutson was preceded in death by her parents; brother, David William Miller; sister, Constance Marie Wynn (Miller). She leaves behind her son, Mark Lewis Hutson and wife Susan Ellen Hutson (Waltrip) of Katy, Texas, daughter, Sandra Camille Hutson of Katy, Texas; and a host of cousins, nephews, nieces, family & friends.
