She was a graduate of the University of Santo Tomas (UST), Manila where she received a Bachelor of Nursing in 1973. Alice also received a Master of Nursing from Spertus University. In 1976 Alice moved from Manila to Houston, Texas where she had a successful career as an oncology nurse at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. In 1996 Alice and her son Ernest moved to Chicago, Illinois where she continued to practice as a nurse at the University of Illinois Chicago until her retirement in 2010.
Alice accepted Jesus as her Lord and personal Savior in 1991 and was a devout follower of Christ until the time of her death. She loved to read the Bible, listen to worship songs, pray for those in need, and attend Sunday Service. She was adamant in professing her faith and constant in submission to God’s will.
Alice is survived by her son, Ernest Maniego, her siblings, Mirza Mangilin, Virginia Anilao, Andres Marin Jr., Anita Rodriguez, Jeanne Sarmiento, and her surrogate grandchildren, Lauren Sombito, Andy Tyson, Luke Santibanez, EJ Santibanez, Shilo Santibanez, Eliana Santibanez, and Ella Santibanez.
Visitation for Alice will be held Saturday, March 23, 2019, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Katy Funeral Home, 23350 Kingsland Blvd, KATY, TX 77494.
