Wilma Kerr Jacobs, 90, of Leawood, Kansas passed away on Monday, April 12, 2010. Wilma was born on July 2, 1919 in Estacada, Texas to Crissie and William Kerr. Wilma graduated from Lubbock High School in Texas where she met her husband and partner of 68 years, Harold Jacobs.
Wilma balanced her life with hard work and fun. She grew up on farms around Lubbock Texas. After marrying the love of her life, Harold, they frequently moved throughout the Midwest-creating many adventures. This was a result of Harold’s job with Western Electric in the Installation department. In 1957 they finally settled in Overland Park, Kansas and they moved one last time a short distance to Leawood, Kansas.
Wilma was an avid tennis player in her youth and enjoyed playing golf as an adult. She was a member at Brookridge Golf and Country Club for a number of years where she had a hole in one! Wilma continued to enjoy watching sports, particularly basketball and golf and hosted the annual family football game on Thanksgiving day.
Wilma was known as Grammie to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as the rest of the family. She remains now in remembered moments of shared confidences and laughter, loyalties, observations and loves; her family was her greatest joy. Curious to the end, inquiry was her greatest pursuit and never material gain.
Wilma is survived by her two children, Doug Jacobs and his wife Donna of Plano, Texas and Mendy Steinwart and her husband Ed of Overland Park, Kansas.; five grandchildren, Shawn Duggan and her husband Sam, Dawn Armstrong and her husband Kevin, Patrick Jacobs, Nate Steinwart, and Will Steinwart; three great-grandchildren, Ben Duggan, Ally Duggan, and Nicholas Duggan.
Wilma was loyal and devoted to her family and friends. She strove to do her best and harm little. She took up little space and gave greatly. She will be missed dearly.
Memorial services will be held at Leawood United Methodist Church on Thursday, April 15th at 3:00p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be made to Crossroads Hospice of 9237 Ward Parkway, Suite 300, Kansas City, Missouri 64114 that provided such good care or her in her last days.
