William L Goetz (W.L), age 57, of Grandview, Missouri passed away in the beginning of June of 2022. He was born in Kansas City, Missouri on January 28th, 1965. After graduation from high school, he briefly attended Warrensburg State University, but left to return to work at Indian Hills Country Club to continue his work in golf course maintenance. He was encouraged by his superintendent and others to apply to the University of Massachusetts for their specialized program, the Golf Course Maintenance and Management Program. To apply, those had to be nominated and accepted, and only a few are each year. He completed the Specialized Program and received his Certification from the University of Massachusetts. While working in the capacity of superintendent of Blue River Golf Course, W.L was asked by Tom Watson, who had a program for children learning how to play golf, to design three-hole teaching greens for the children in this program. He had a creative mind for golf course improvement and always thinking and working on ideas to expand this area of work.
W.L had many great attributes, but his greatest attribute was his kind, selfless heart and always to be the first to lend a helping hand to those in need. He cared greatly about others, including his family, and ensuring that they felt cared for and loved. He performed many acts of kindness with the expectation of receiving nothing in return.
W.L leaves his mother, Mary Ann Goetz, of Overland Park, KS, his two sisters, Lee Ann Eltomi of Olathe, KS, and Susan Cipolla, of Kansas City, Missouri, and his brother, Art Goetz of Overland Park, KS. In addition, his three nieces and a nephew. Mass will be held on Thursday, June 23rd at 10am at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Parish in Leawood, KS for those who wish to celebrate W.L’s life.
