William H. Degen, Jr., 82, of Lenexa, Kansas, ended his earthly chapter on March 10, 2011. He was born in Kansas City, Missouri to Lorena and Harold Degen Sr. on September 30, 1928. He had been a lifetime resident of the Kansas City area except for his service time in the U.S. Marine Corps. We will miss his “Good Mornings” and his “GD’s”. A graduate of the University of Kansas, B.A. degree in 1949, Mr. Degen became an agent for the Mutual Benefit Life in 1954. In 1955 he became an agent for Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company, and in 1956 he joined the partnership of King, Fellenstein & Degen. He was a member of the Kansas City Chapter of the American Society of C.L.U., and was a past president of the chapter. Mr. Degen was also a past president of the Life Underwriters Association of Kansas City, Missouri, as well as of the Estate Planning Association of Kansas City. He was a Colonel in the United States Marine Corps Reserve. He was also a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, a Life Loyal Sigma Chi, and Deacon and Elder of the Village Presbyterian Church. He leaves his wife of 60 years, Beverly (King) Degen; his three children Stephanie Degen-Monroe and husband Jeff of Essex, Conneticut, John Degen and wife Katheigh of Kansas City, Missouri and Rebecca Seitz of Fulton, Missouri; sister Annette Young and husband Dennis of Kansas City, Missouri; and seven grandchildren Judson, Simeon, Schaffer, William, Addison, Berlyn and Benjamin. Visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Sunday, March 13, at Mt. Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Rd. Interment in Mt. Moriah Cemetery South. Memorial services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Monday, March 14, at Village Presbyterian Church, 6641 Mission Rd., Prairie Village, Kansas 66208. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Village Presbyterian Church and/or Heartstrings Community Foundation, 7086 W. 105th Street, Overland Park, Kansas 66212.
