William Walter Meier, 83, of Kansas City, MO, passed away March 4, 2013. Bill was born July 19, 1929 to Julius Walter Meier and Helen Sawyer Meier in Kansas City, MO. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, March 12 at Village Presbyterian Church, 6641 Mission Road, Prairie Village, KS. In 1950 upon graduation from the University of Kansas with a Bachelor of Science in Business degree, Bill began his career with Arthur Andersen and Company. He was vice president and treasurer of Gustin-Bacon Manufacturing Company in Kansas City from 1963- 1966 before joining Stepan Company in Northfield, IL, as senior vice-president- chief financial officer retiring in 1991. Bill was an Eagle Scout and member of the honorary Tribe of Mic-O-Say. He told favorite stories of his summer working at Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, NM. He graduated from Southwest High School where he was a lieutenant colonel in the ROTC. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity at KU. He served as president of the board of the Mental Health Association of Greater Chicago, board president of the Institute for Living (an ecumenical pastoral counseling organization), treasurer of Skokie Country Club, Glencoe, IL, and chairman of the congregation of the Winnetka Congregational Church, Winnetka, IL. He was a member of the Executive Service Corps of Chicago and served on the finance committee of several organizations: Senior Center of North Shore, Chicago, Kaw Valley Habitat for Humanity, Kansas City, KS, alumni board of SAE and Literacy Kansas City. Bill served as a trustee of the Epworth Heights Assembly at his summer home in Ludington, MI -- a cottage community begun in 1896. He was married to Louise Spencer Meier (deceased) for 46 years and predeceased by his brother Robert Edward Meier. His wife of 13 years, Barbara King Barickman; three daughters, Margueritte Meier, Ft. Collins, CO, Susan Meier, Gaithersburg, MD, and Pamela Meier Tingley, Evanston, IL; son-in-law, Brian Tingley; granddaughters, Cassis Tingley and Amelia Tingley; grandson, Taylor Meier; sister-in-law, Helen Meier; and three nephews survive him. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Literacy KC, 211 West Armour Blvd., Kansas City, MO 64111; Hospice House, 12000 Wornall Rd., Kansas City, MO 64145; or Village Presbyterian Church Foundation.
