Wendell Claude Muck passed onto his final reward on February 3, 2012. He was born to Claude Harrison and Jessie Mae Muck in Clay Center, Kansas on April 16, 1922. He came from a large family, with brothers Don, Maurice, and Floyd and a sister, Dorothy, all pre-deceasing him.
Wendell graduated from Clay Center HS and then served his country in World War II in the Pacific. On his return he graduated in Mechanical Engineering from Kansas State University in 1949 with engineering honorary affiliations in Pi Tau Sigma and Steel Ring. His spent his career designing equipment with HNTB, Bell Saw Machinery, Clipper Manufacturing, Manley Popcorn, Target and Federal Mogul. His career centered around concrete cutting equipment and he holds a patent in this field.
After a whirlwind romance, he married a lovely Irish lass, Dorothy Jean O’Donnell of Hutchison, Kansas and she survives him at their home in Lenexa. They have three sons, Steve married to Susan Denzel and living in Denver, Larry, married to Mary Foley and living in Kansas City, and Fred, married to Mary Grace Bell and living in Houston. He also leaves eight grandchildren, Andy, Greg, Ryan, Molly, Austin, Jordan, Morgan, Hayden, and one great grandchild, Carter and numerous nieces and nephews and friends.
Wendell was a long time member of Asbury United Methodist Church where he served many years as an usher. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and patience. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed camping, hunting, and gardening, also proud of helping shepherd his sons and many others in their achievement of the rank of Eagle Scout.
The family will receive visitors at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 9th, at Asbury United Methodist, 75th and Nall in Prairie Village, Kansas followed by a memorial service at 11:00 with a reception at Treetop in the Southridge Building at Lakeview at 1:30 p.m. For those wishing to make contributions in his name, the family would encourage those to be made to the Asbury Foundation, Lakeview Foundation, or the charitable cause of their choice.
