Born November 26, 1921, in Austin, TX, Virginia was the youngest of five children of Patrick and W. Kathryn McNamara. She graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in Austin. Virginia was predeceased by her sisters Kathryn Douglas and Jane Hatch and by her brother John James McNamara. She is survived by her sister Patricia Ayer of Houston, TX.
Virginia married Donald T. McPhee in 1947. They first lived in Texas and then moved to Kansas City, MO, in 1956, where Donald worked for Kansas City Power and Light Company. Donald passed away in 1998.
Virginia and Donald were members of the Saint Thomas More Parish from its inception in 1964. She was active in the parish group More Friends as well as The Ladies of Charity of Metropolitan Kansas City.
Virginia is survived by her three children: Gerald McPhee (Paula) of Kensington, MD; Michael McPhee of Overland Park, KS; and Kathleen Aken (Ron) Roux of Kansas City, MO. She is also survived by her four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren: Shannon (Tom) Lauchert and their three children, Ryan, Aaron, and Olive, of Austin, TX; Jason Aken (Mariel) of New Orleans, LA; Chris McPhee and his daughter Evann of Kansas City, MO; and Melinda (Guy) Doubleday and their daughter Lucy of Overland Park, KS.
Visitation for family and friends will be held Tuesday, January 5, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the McGilley State Line Chapel, 12301 State Line, Kansas City, MO, (816) 942-6180. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, January 6, at 10 a.m. at the St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 11822 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO, with burial following in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Kansas City, MO. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
Virginia will be greatly missed by family and friends.
