Twila Joan Simpson

January 3, 1936 – May 9, 2022

Twila Joan Simpson, age 86, went home to be with her Lord on May 9, 2022, with her daughters by her side. She was born in Kansas City, MO on January 3, 1936 to Esther and Hershell Courtier.

Joan graduated from Northeast High School in 1954. She was united in marriage in May,1958, to Damon Duane Simpson, and from this union they had three daughters.

After raising their family in Independence, MO, Duane’s job took them to various places around the country. They spent several years in Omaha, Denver, Dallas, and Columbia before settling in the Lees Summit and Blue Springs area.

Joan was a member of Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in Lees Summit, MO. She served as President of the Day Group, attended Bible class regularly, and was instrumental in starting the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. Joan also was in charge of the food pantry at the church, and taught Vacation Bible School.

Joan was preceded in death by husband, Duane, her parents, two sisters, and a brother. She is survived by three daughters, Kathryn and husband Tom O’Donnell, Elizabeth and husband Boyd Watkins, and Susan and husband Dave Harralson. She also leaves behind ten grandchildren: Krista Steenrod, Daniel Watkins, Julie Blevins, David Watkins, Meagan O’Donnell, Jennifer Crewse, Scott O’Donnell, Derek Johnson, Tyler Johnson, and Brett Watkins; and fifteen great-grandchildren. She is also survived by three sisters, Mary Brice, Marian Angotti, and Peggy Courtier, and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, Lees Summit, MO on Friday, May 13, 2022 at 11:00 am, with a visitation at the church beginning at 10:00 am. Interment will be at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Raytown, MO.

Joan was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be greatly missed, but will always remain in our hearts. The family would like to send a special thanks to the staff at the Villages of Jackson Creek in Independence MO for all of their loving care over the past nine years.
