Clayton was born March 9, 1925 the oldest of five children, to Frank and Laura Perry in Windsor, MO. When Clayton was 18 years old, his father died of a heart attack in the family’s barn, leaving Clayton to work for the family farm and help his mother provide for his younger siblings. This early experience shaped Clayton into a man who would be known for living a life with great humility, integrity and generosity; he was a gentle soul who always put his faith and family first. After graduating from CMSU, Warrensburg, MO, Clayton married Ruth Ann Swope in Sedalia, MO in 1949. Clayton and Ruth Ann enjoyed raising their family of four children and spending precious time with their ten grandchildren. They were happily married for 54 years until Ruth Ann’s passing in 2003. For the last ten years Clayton enjoyed a blessed marriage to his second wife and loving partner, Joanne Bogart, whom he married in 2005.
For over 50 years, he owned a family business, Clayton Perry Building Company, and built high quality homes in Grandview, Kansas City, Lee’s Summit and Johnson County. Clayton’s late wife Ruth Ann, late brother Robert, late son Rick, and sons Scott and Brent worked in the family business. Clayton took pride in building homes with exceptional workmanship. Clayton was a long-standing, active member and Deacon of Holmeswood Baptist Church.
Clayton was preceded in death by his wife Ruth Ann Perry, son Rick Perry, sisters Virginia Hecker and Dorothy Gruner, and brother Robert Perry. Survivors include his wife Joanne Perry, sister Mary Morgan (Steve), sons Scott Perry and Brent Perry (Dona), and daughter Lisa Olinger (Curtis), grandchildren Mike, Chris, Clay, Sage, Josh, Casey, Leanna, Troy, Davis and Cole. Clayton will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Holmeswood Baptist Church.
