Steve was a guy's buddy.  We would talk about sports (well Boston sports), exchange books to read, philosophize about life and nothingness, politicize and tell unmentionable stories about Harry. But always lots of laughter. All that interspersed with Seaboard biz. 
But most memorable about Steve was meeting after not seeing him for awhile and he putting on the biggest smile and saying to me, "Come here Dougie" accompanied by the biggest hug. 
I love the guy.

Stevie was one of my roommates on Beacon Hill in Boston in the early 1970s (“the three Steves”). We would talk for hours about literature (Bukowski), music (the Grateful Dead), sports (the Red Sox), and everything else as we were figuring out who we were and what we wanted to do in life. Steve had a human quality that made people gravitate toward him wherever he went. I will miss his humor, his laugh and his unique perspectives on life.  My heart goes out to Ellen and the family.

For the past few days, the skies above West Africa have been tearfully gray. 
Every single day, thousands of people, throughout this region, have jobs, have the bread they need, are able to feed their animals and have a better life thanks to Steve’s generosity, vision, courage and tenacity. His humility has become legendary. We are proud to have worked for him, day after day, to build a part of (t)his fantastic company. Steve’s smiling face is forever engraved in our hearts.

Steve will always be in our hearts and prayers. My husband, Joel and I, shared many memories of his visits to our home in Ecuador and our beach house in Playas; they  called each other  "bro" and that's how I remember them both, laughing  (mostly giggling) at silly jokes as well as  discussing important business - like two brothers united by their love, friendship and trust for each other.  
Steve was one of the nicest, kindest and caring person you can be lucky enough to cross paths with, I am glad I was one of them.

It was an honor to work for a man like Steve, a man that truly embodied the spirit of great family values. And those values were instilled in everyone's lives that he touched. Something that was absolutely amazing was that Steve knew a little something about every single person that worked for Seaboard. 

We met in our late teens (dorm rooms next to each other as fate would have it) and were friends for life. 2 of the 3 “Steves” when roommates, we saw each other through - everything. Steve’s council was precious at every turn. He had a way of charging the battery of anyone he was around. My memories would pave a path from here to the stars.

My heart goes out to Ellen, Jack, Eli, and to Steve’s sister Patty (who’s dorm room was just up the hall, those many years ago).

I remember when I first started working there in 1986, I was approached to play on Seaboard’s co-Ed softball team. I wasn’t going to do it but am glad I did. I played 2nd base, Steve played short stop.  That’s how I got to know him. He was kind of a jokester and always upbeat. When you would see him in the halls at the office, he would always look at you, smile, and say hi.  He was never “above” anyone working for Seaboard which is what made him so great.  His smiling face will be missed.

I am saddened to learn of Steve’s passing.  He was a truly incredible individual who had such an amazing effect on everyone who knew him. I can’t imagine how difficult this is for you.
I was blessed to be a part of Seaboard Marine’s family for 30 years.  Even though Steve was CEO for the corporate office, he always made me feel welcomed and at ease when speaking with him. The news of Steve's passing greatly saddened my family.
Mr. Bresky was a true friend to my dad, Joel Stuart, and our family until the very end and beyond.  I have memories of my dad giggling like a school boy during his countless conversations with Steve.  Their work relationship turned into a true friendship, they shared the same silly humor and love for bad jokes.  I even created matching t-shirts for them to commemorate one of those silly shared inside jokes.  They were the best of friends.  When my dad passed last year, Steve was a source of constant support to our family.  He was a kind and wonderful person.  I send my sincere and most heartfelt condolences to the family.  I know Steve and my dad are looking over all of us, cutting up and sharing some laughter.    

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of Mr. Bresky. He was such a great man. I will always remember how welcomed he would make new hires feel! I always thought it was so cool how the CEO was right there in the building and was a part of everyday life at Seaboard. 

Steve and Ellen were avid supporters of fair and equitable access to postsecondary education. They believed in providing opportunities for our regional students and adults. This support is another example of why Steve as a leader who cared about his community and about others. We are grateful and want to thank Steve's family! We send warm thoughts to the family during this time of loss.

I had no idea that this high energy, witty, and colorful character standing among fellow KC Board of Traders at the Blarney Stone Pub in 1977 would become one of my most treasured and dear friends for life.  We were both new to Kansas City and figured out quickly that we were born 10 miles apart in Boston in 1953.  After over 40 years of adventures, travels, sports, and warm camaraderie, the bond is stronger than ever.  Steve was truly a rare one:  a creative and brilliant mind, voracious reader, extra dry sense of humor, and keen business instincts.  Much more importantly, he was a compassionate and dedicated father, husband, son, and brother.  And he always took the time to let his friends know how much they meant to him, with love and generosity.   There is no way to fill the void felt by this loss, but not a day will pass when I don’t think of Steve, wanting to share an observation, a memory, or a laugh. There are simply no words for such a great loss.  I had the honor and privilege to know Steve and work directly for him during the last 26 years of my career at Seaboard.   He was kind, fair, compassionate, down to earth, low key, genuinely authentic, loyal, honorable, thoughtful, extremely funny and I don't think that he ever met a stranger.  I loved him like family and I am devastated and completely heart broken for Ellen, Eli and Jack.    Although his legacy will continue, the hole in the hearts of all that knew him personally will never be filled.   It will be almost unbearable to return to the office and not see his smiling smirk, hear his laugh or know that he will never sneak another cigarette  by hanging out of his office window again.  I have nothing but fond memories and for that I am extremely grateful.  We will miss you Boss.  Rest now.

Steve saw me one day walking very slowly to the building and asked if I was okay.  My immediate response was “no” and that every step I take is very painful.  Shortly after I got to my desk, the maintenance supervisor called me to let me know that Steve had given him his remote to the garage for me to use until my back felt better.  Steve was truly a kind and generous man.  Sending my sincere condolences and sympathy to the Bresky family.

Steve took over from his father, Harry Bresky, and was appointed CEO of Seaboard Corporation in 2006.  He was the third generation Bresky to lead Seaboard in its 102-year history.  We’ve been partners with the Bresky family for 3 generations.

CGC’s relationship with Seaboard dates to 1966 when the two companies collaborated on the purchase of a flour mill in Ecuador.  Over the next 50-plus years the companies worked together on joint ventures throughout Latin America and the Caribbean and partnered in building the largest integrated salmon company in North America. 

“Steve had a father he admired.  He fell in love with commodity businesses and had the highest respect for the friendships and partnerships built over the years.  Steve found the right balance of love and respect for the previous generation, combined with the willingness to change and evolve.”  

The Bresky family has been an integral part of the Continental Grain Company family.  Many CGC employees, past and present, had the good fortune of knowing Steve.  He made an indelible and invaluable contribution to our company, our people and our industry.  He leaves behind a rich legacy.

He and Matt may not have spoken everyday but every time they spoke it was if they had just spoken a moment ago. They shared so much from the time they were small but mischievous boys.  Golf, Red Sox, Patriots and Allen/Bresky family ties bound them together. He will be missed terribly. May his memory be a blessing for all who knew and loved him. 

Steve was a part of my growing up in West Newton.  He was a kind and warm-hearted soul who greeted everyone with a friendly smile and a chuckle.   From backyard baseball to all the gatherings of the Breskys and the Allens, he always brought out the best in everyone. I will miss him. I am so sad to hear of Steve's passing.  Steve hired me when I was 18 years old and gave me a chance to work for him  and Dave.  He showed the continuity of how to handle business and still be able to do it with a smile and a laugh. I could never thank him enough for the opportunity and a career. It is with saddened heart that we present to you our sincere condolences in your terrible loss, a loss we respectfully share with you today. 

It is not often we find such authentic, charismatic, joyful yet humble person in a leader as we did in Steve. We thank G-d for the opportunity we had to meet him personally during his visit to Honduras, he made us all feel we had been friends forever.  He will be terribly missed .

I learned the sad news of Steve’s untimely death  when Bob Steer called me last night. 
I’ve known Steve since 1988 when I met him through his father Harry.  I’ve been a partner of Seaboard since 1988 and sincerely loved the Breskys and the Seaboard family since then. They put me in business.
Steve had all the great qualities that made his father so special: simplicity, kindness, and great business acumen. Rudyard Kipling said in his poem “If”: ...”If you can walk with kings nor lose the common touch....”
That was Steve, that was Harry Bresky.
May they Rest In Peace.

Stevie has always been so important like a third brother throughout my life. Kind and loving and ready to embrace my husband and daughter when they came along. With all his responsibility and worldliness always
 the same funny, affectionate, wonderful guy. He will be missed terribly by all the Allens and Nashes.

My heart is heavy. Steve was humble, unassuming, and kind. I will miss the ornery twinkle in his eye and cracking jokes with him. The employees of Seaboard love him and will continue to be devoted to him, the family and the company.

It was with sincere sadness that I learned of Steve’s passing.  I was honored and extremely fortunate to work under Steve’s leadership for almost 20 years at Seaboard.  He was such a sincere, humble and engaging individual who always thought of the employees and never let his CEO title supersede that.  I will remember how happy and proud he was to celebrate Seaboard’s 100 year anniversary in 2018.   I send my thoughts to Ellen, Jack and Eli during this difficult time.  I am also thinking about my former Seaboard family as they adjust to Steve’s absence.  Steve, you will be missed. 

Steve was my best friend, we grew up together as kids and kept our friendship going until the day of his passing. We were friends for sixty two years.  Steve was a great friend. We both called each other on our birthdays every year, no matter where we were... Our friendship transcended time and space, we could just pick up where we left off.  My heartfelt condolences go out to Ellen, Eli, Jack,  his sister Patty and the entire Bresky family. G-d took our Steve and we have his loving memories. I will cherish my friendship with Steve always...

It is with great sadness I receive the news of Steve´s untimely passing. I must offer you my deepest sympathy and overreach to you all with my warm prayers for Steve and also for your peace and comfort. His absence is hard to grapple with and I am sure that we will continue to have his inspiring presence with us. His memory and legacy should be well preserved in our minds and certainly in our business, because Steve was and will continue to be a driving, cogent force of inspiration for me and all of us in Moderna.  I will miss him dearly.

Steve was the best boss I ever had.  He was a true gentleman,  always amusing and always honest and true. He set a unique example of  honesty and integrity. He was modest and yet an inspiring leader of his team.  My whole family will miss him greatly.  We wish his family condolences .  Seaboard Corp will miss him and find it hard to replace him.
